David, 1972

This sculpture was named to honor three people that influenced Raimondi in very significant yet distinctly different ways—David Davidson, a favorite teacher/mentor, and ceramicist at the Massachusetts College of Art; David Smith, the famous American sculptor; and David Macintyre, a 10-year old on crutches, who was born with cerebral palsy, and with whom Raimondi worked at the Fernald School in Massachusetts before he went off to college in 1969. Raimondi came to love little David, “one of the most beautiful children I have ever met,” because of his great courage and disposition.
