Ceres, 1994

During his study of Greek and Roman mythologies, Raimondi was particularly taken with the Roman goddess of the harvest, Ceres who was also associated with fertility and motherly relationships. Clearly a copy of the Greek goddess Demeter, Ceres’ name was synonymous with grain and bread throughout the Roman Empire, where festivals in her honor were celebrated in both spring and fall.
