Artist's website

Dean Nimmer began his career in the fine arts in 1970. The artist started as an installation artist with shows at the Museum of Fine Arts and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, and by the mid-1980s focused more on abstract painting, drawing, and printmaking.

In the spirit of his installation works, Dean exhibited a series of 1,000 drawings that were displayed together in a 150-foot compendium at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 1995. The popularity of this work led to shows from the 1,000 Drawings series in Australia, Ireland, Spain, Japan, and China as well as exhibits in many galleries and universities in the US. He is the author of the successful book, Art from Intuition, Random House, 2008, which is currently in its 9th printing, and his latest book, Creating Abstract Art, (North Light Books, 2014) is also a highly rated book.

Dean is Emeritus Professor and the former Chairman of the Painting and Printmaking programs at the Massachusetts College of Art. Dean was given the 2010, Distinguished Teaching of Art Award, granted by the 16,000- member College Art Association, the 2011 Distinguished Alumnus Award granted by the University of Wisconsin and honored as the Outstanding Community Teacher of the Year for 2014/15 by the state of Massachusetts.
