David Richard Huchthausen was born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. Huchthausen attended the University of Wisconsin and received an Associates of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Science degree from 1970-1975. He received his Masters of Fine Art from Illinois State University and studied at the University of Applied Arts on a Fulbright Scholar Research Grant.


Huchthausen has an extensive exhibition background dating back to 1974 and was included in the museum shows as early as 1976. David Huchthausen’s works are included in numerous private collections and in over 35 museums throughout the world including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, New York; The Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC; Los Angeles County Museum, Los Angeles, California; High Museum, Atlanta, Georgia; Museum of Fine Arts, Lausanne, Switzerland; The Corning Museum, Corning, New York; American Craft Museum, New York, New York; Hokkaido Museum of Art, Sapporo, Japan; Musée de Verre, Liège, Belgium, and The Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, Virginia.
