Tjibbe Hooghiemstra

Dutch, 1957 - Present

Artist's website

Hooghiemstra studied at Academie Minerva in the Netherlands and the Sint Lucas Academie in Belgium.

Hooghiemstra’s artistic practice is somehow reminiscent of the estate of a 19th-century naturalist. In Hooghiemstra’s drawings, paintings, collages, and photographs, nature thrives in a place just outside of the purely subjective. We feel there is something of history there, a quality that causes us to suspect the work has previously existed elsewhere, as something other than art, divulging unknown things to unknown people, like a fragment of some scattered archive.

His work has been internationally exhibited and collected by galleries and museums such as the Rijksmuseum and Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam in the Netherlands, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, as well as being shown at numerous art fairs, among which Art Basel in Switzerland and the French FIAC Paris.
